About the Course: In 1996 the Supreme Court of Texas mandated that all lawyers licensed (active or inactive status) in the state of Texas take a four-hour professionalism course entitled A Guide to the Basics of Law Practice not later than twelve (12) months of being licensed. The course is offered as a live program numerous times throughout the year or may be taken online by selecting four of the one-hour program segments listed below. The course qualifies for 4 hours of ethics/professional responsibility/participatory MCLE credit with the State Bar of Texas MCLE Department.

If you are choosing to take the course online, you must select one segment from each of the four categories listed below. The course fee is $35 per credit hour. Four hours are required for the course. If you are taking the course prior to the court-mandated deadline (no later than 12 months after being licensed in Texas), the course fee is $140. If you have missed the deadline, you must pay an additional $150 administrative late fee to receive credit for the course. Your total fee will be $290. You must complete the online course within ninety days after registration. There are no exceptions to this time limit. You will be required to re-register and pay for the course again if you do not complete all four online segments within the ninety day period.
