The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was originally enacted by Congress in 1975 to ensure that children with disabilities, just like those without, had the opportunity to receive a free appropriate public education. The law has been revised many times, most recently in 2004, with final regulations published in August 2006, making much of it seem new, even to those who know it well.
The IDEA is important to school administrators, teachers, and families, and many times its provisions are interpreted one way by the educational institution and another by the family, and so legal maneuvering becomes necessary.
This audio CD is designed to help parents, new attorneys, and child advocates identify and use the services and programs available to children with disabilities already in or preparing to enter the public school system.

Summary of Contents:
Overview | Ensuring the Development of an Appropriate Individualized Education Program (IEP): Rights and Procedures | Determining the Appropriate Placement for the Child  in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) | Enforcing a Child’s Rights Under Special Education  Law: Dispute Resolution Strategies | Protecting Children with Disabilities from  Inappropriate Discipline | Obtaining & Using Special Education Evaluations & Experts.
