Studies have shown that the perpetrators of animal abuse often have a greater propensity for committing crimes of violence against other people. Our panelists explore the link between animal cruelty and other crimes; juvenile animal abuse as an early indicator and predictor of anti-social and aggressive behavior later in life; and animal abuse as an indicator and predictor of domestic violence. The panel also discusses legislative responses to animal abuse, including increased criminal sanctions, mandatory psychological evaluations, and inclusion of pets in protection orders.
This course was recorded in August 2011 at PBI’s 8th Annual Animal Law Conference. Other sessions from the conference are available at PBI’s Online Campus.
