| Distance Education Credits |
| Q. |
What is "distance education?" |
A.
 |
For purposes of Pennsylvania CLE credits, as of October 2007 distance learning includes CLE credits earned over the Internet (online CLE), by podcast ("CLEtoGo"), by telephone, and by webinar (phone plus Internet). |
| Q. |
Can I earn all 12 Pennsylvania CLE credits by distance education? |
A.
 |
Sorry, no. Pennsylvania lawyers may use up to 4 credits per year that were earned by distance learning. |
| Q. |
Will I get a "blue form" as proof of my participation? |
A.
 |
Once you have completed the seminar, you will be able to print a Certificate of Participation (and receive one by e-mail). It's not blue, but it's the functional equivalent of the "blue form" we use at our traditional seminars. It's your personal record that you took the course. Do NOT send it to the Pennsylvania CLE Board; PBI will report your credits for you within 30 days (same as traditional courses). |
| Q. |
Will PBI report my credits to the CLE Board? |
A.
 |
Yes. Just as we do for traditional seminars, we will report your completed distance education courses within 30 days.
We will also assist attorneys licensed in other jurisdictions, and other professionals, to seek credit for our distance education courses. |
| Q. |
Can I carry distance learning credits over to my next compliance period? |
A.
 |
Sorry, no.
BUT here's the good news: these credits are applied FIRST in each current compliance year.
Example: you could earn 18 CLE credits at live courses and then earn 4 distance education (online or CLEtoGo) credits, for a total of 22 credits earned in your current compliance year. The CLE board would count the distance credits in this compliance year (even if they were earned after all the live credits), apply 8 of the credits from live courses to this year for a total of the required 12 this year. Then they would carry the other 10 forward to future years (subject to the other limits on maximum credits that may be carried forward).
---------------------
AND if you are behind on credits for past years, you can apply distance learning CLE credits retroactively to prior years. NOTE in this case the CLE board applies credits as they are earned.
---------------------
For more information, contact the Pennsylvania CLE board at (800)497-2253.
|
| Q. |
I am behind in credits for past years. Can I use distance education credits for earlier years? If so, how many can I use? |
A.
 |
Yes, you can apply distance education credits that you earn now to earlier years, but no more than 4 credits per year.
Note: the CLE board applies credits to prior years as they are earned, regardless of whether they are live or online credits.
Contact the CLE Board if you have questions, at (800) 497-2253.
|
| Q. |
Is there a limit to the number of courses I can take? |
A.
 |
You can take as many courses as you like, but Pennsylvania lawyers can apply only 4 distance learning credits per year to their 12-credit requirement. |
| Q. |
If I can only apply 4 distance education credits to my 12-credit requirement, why do you offer courses for more than 4 credits? |
A.
 |
Many Pennsylvania lawyers rely on our courses to stay up to date in the law and at the top of their form. We don't want to prevent you from access to excellent programs just because they happen to be longer than the credits you can use.
Also, we now offer many of our online courses for NO credit (and at a lower fee). Persons taking these courses are interested solely in the information and for them the length of the course is irrelevant. |

| Online Seminar |
| Q. |
What are the recommended/minimum system requirements for viewing online seminars? |
A.
 |
Recommended System Requirements:
- Windows: a PC running Windows 2000+, with Internet Explorer 6.0+, and Windows Media Player 10+. If Windows Media Player is not an option for this seminar, then we recommend Real Player 10+.
- Mac: a Mac running OS X (10.3+). For Online CLE programs, we recommend using Safari and RealPlayer (installation instructions here). For live webcasts, we recommend the Safari browser and the latest version of the Flip4Mac WMV plugin for Quicktime (v2.2) (installation instructions here). Please note that Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X no longer seems to be compatible with our systems for live webcasts.
PLEASE NOTE THAT MOZILLA FIREFOX IS NOT A CERTIFIED BROWSER ON EITHER PLATFORM. |
| Q. |
How do I log into my account and start my seminar? |
A.
 |
- Log in to your User Account by Clicking on the

- If you are having trouble getting past the Systems Analysis Page, then, Click Here to disable it.
- Select your stream type and speed in the upper left hand corner, and then, the seminar will either start at the beginning or at the time that you left off.
|
| Q. |
How do I restart the seminar if I stop it or get disconnected? |
A.
 |
- Log in to your User Account (Click here for the FAQ on how to do that)
- Make sure you are in the [My Account] tab.
- Next, click on the
button under the title.
- Click on the link titled [Click Here to Continue on to Seminar] at the top of the page until you arrive at a window that displays the media player stream speeds and segments. (Segments will not show up in a live webcast.)
- Select your stream type and speed in the upper left hand corner, and then, the seminar should start at the time that you left off.
- If the seminar starts from the beginning, but you know that you have already watched some, check to see if the [Segments] are hyperlinked. If they are, click on the last one to begin viewing at that time mark.
- If the Segments are not hyperlinked near the point where you left off your seminar, the problem could be with your Temporary Internet Files. (Click Here for the FAQ on clearing your Temporary Internet Files)
Note: We use Microsoft ActiveX Controls to Trip the Segments and track Time throughout the seminar. In order for session to track properly, we recommend that you use a browser with ActiveX enabled, like Internet Explorer. You can use other browsers (Netscape, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc.), to view the seminar, but we cannot guaranty that the seminar will track properly.
If the problem persists, contact us either by submitting a Support Request, or our support number at (877) 880-1335 |
| Q. |
I am getting an error referencing a "codec". |
A.
 |
If you are getting an message/error similar to "You do not have the required codec to view this stream" or "Error Downloading CODEC." Please download the acelp_net.exe file attached to this answer. It will prompt you to either save the file or run it. Select [Run], the install will only take a few moments and no reboot is required.
Click here to download the ACELP.NET CODEC
The definition of a codec is a compressor/decompressor algorithm that allows data to be compressed on one computer and then, decompressed on another computer.
|
| Q. |
I am working in a virtual environment (e.g. CITRIX) and do not hear any sound on my seminar. |
A.
 |
Due to settings in CITRIX, the audio in our seminars will not play if launched within the CITRIX environment or if you are using Terminal Services.
In order to watch a seminar, you will need to log into your account through a browser outside of the CITRIX environment (i.e. one that is installed directly on your computer) and relaunch the seminar from your My Account page. |
| Q. |
I just finished watching an online seminar, but I get an error saying that I have not completed all the segments. |
A.
 |
The technology that we currently use to track the time that you are in a seminar is called ActiveX. ActiveX Controls are primarily used in the Internet Explorer web browser, this is why our platform is specifically supported on Internet Explorer.
We do understand that not everyone uses Internet Explorer and use a diferent browser (i.g. Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, Safari, Etc.). We have implemented alternative methods for tracking seminars (Secondary Tracking) on these other browsers. Although these alternative methods ARE NOT 100% foolproof, we have tested them to the best that we can.
All that said, if you have listened to a seminar in full, and cannot access your certificate, there are a couple of things that you can try. - Wait 10 minutes and try to access the certificate again.
- Clear your "Temporary Internet Files" and try again.
- If the above two methods to not work then you will need to send us a "Support Request", or call us at 877.880.1335 (BankerEd - 888.262.7701)
|
| Q. |

| Q. |
What is an online seminar? |
A.
 |
Viewed over the internet as streaming media, Online Seminars are the ideal way to obtain your CLE credits without leaving the comfort of your office or home. Once you purchase an Online Seminar, you may access it immediately or log back into your CLE account at a later time to complete. Seminar materials are stored in your account (in PDF format) and can be saved to your computer or printed. In order to receive credit for an Online Seminar, simply click on the [Launch Seminar] button in your account and watch/listen to the seminar. While you are watching the seminar, you will sometimes be prompted in 10 to 15 minute intervals with a box asking whether or not you would like to continue or not. This insures compliance, and it will, also, stop the seminar and replay the last segment if the promt is not answered within 3 minutes. When the program is complete, click on the red [Certificate of Completion] button associated with the program to receive your certificate. * Note: Rules may differ depending on the state that you are registering in. |

|
| Q. |
Why does my video stop every 10-15 minutes and go back? |
A.
 |
Some courses require a confirmation response to verify attendance. Every 10-15 minutes a window will pop up and ask if you are there and still watching. If there is no response after one minute then the course stops. When you click on play again it will go back to the last confirmed segment.
If you were watching the course and didn’t see the window you most likely have a popup blocker running on your system that is preventing the user confirmation window from coming up.
You will need to either temporarily disable the pop-up blocker or add our site to your exceptions list. |

Can I receive credit for online seminars in multiple states? |
A.
 |
LegalSpan Inc. provides Online CE (Podcast - MP3) for several states. Some states will allow you to apply credits for Online CE (Podcast - MP3) taken in another state.
A list of specific states that allow this is not available at this time. If you have taken an Online CE (Podcast - MP3) in one state and wish to receive credit in another state, you will need to contact that state's BAR Association.
If you have not taken the online CE (Podcast - MP3) that you wish to be applied to another state(s), we suggest that you review the course catalog for your "primary" state, document any online CE (Podcast - MP3) that you wish to take, and then, contact the other state(s) BAR Association to see if they will allow the credits to be applied to their specific state.

How do I delete Temporary Internet Files? |
| Q. |
How do I create multiple accounts? |
A.
 |
If you have multiple accounts and would like us to create them for you, please complete this spreadsheet and email it to support@legalspan.com.
Please note the following items:
- Email address MUST be unique.
- Provide a phone number so we can call and get the credit card number. Do NOT include credit card information in the spreadsheet or the email.
- Some online seminars and webcasts have different prices for members and non members so we need to know which price applies.
- The 'Affiliation' field is where you would enter the specific State Bar or CPA Affiliate. (I.E. State Bar of California, Florida Institute of CPA's etc...)
- All fields in the spreadsheet are required.
These requests are usually completed within 24 hours Monday-Friday.
If you need accounts created immediately, you need to add accounts one at a time using a unique email address for each person you are to manage.
It is very important that after you create an account and are getting ready to create another account, that you click on the [Log Off] button located in the top right hand portion of your screen. If you do not log off and try to create an account for somebody else, you may get the following error message: "You are attempting to add a course to your cart that is either already in your cart or one that you have previously purchased."
There are 2 very important items to note:
- Each email used must be unique
- Our system will not let the same customer purchase the same item twice. If you are getting the error message listed above, try clicking on the [Log Off] button and log back in as the correct person.

| Q. |
I am having trouble with the audio. |
A.
 |
Cause(s):
This can be caused by a number of things... Your computer's speakers could be...
Incorrectly plugged in (in the wrong jack).
Not plugged into a power source.
The volume knob might be turned down.
The power button on your speakers could be turned off.
A mute setting could be selected.
A volume control bar could be turned down.
There could be a problem with the 'soundcard'.
A missing Codec.
Solution(s):
If you are having trouble hearing a stream which contains only audio (no video options) download and install the following file: http://download.microsoft.com/download/winmediatech40/Install/8.0/WIN98Me/EN-US/wmpcdcs8.exe
For computer volume, and sound related issues, Refer to this Computer Volume Guide. An Illustrated Guide to “Turning up the Volume” on your PC
If you are getting an message/error like "You do not have the required codec to view this stream." then refer to the guide below. The Illustrated Guide to Downloading and Installing the ACELP (Audio) Codec
Or you might want to Upgrade to the latest Windows Media Player using this guide (Recommended). An Illustrated Guide to Finding what version Windows Media Player your computer is using, and upgrading to the latest Version

| Q. |
I completed an online course but my credits have not been reported. |
A.
 |
After you have completed watching an online CE (Podcast - MP3), it is important that you obtain your [Certificate of Completion].
To do this, login to your account, and click on [My Account]. Depending on what state affiliation you are with, you will either see a [Certificate of Completion] button or a [Certificate] link. Click on the button or link, and your certificate should open up. Some will have the option to obtain a printable copy, others will have the option to submit the certificate for credit.
Once you do this, it will automatically be reported to your affiliate. It can take them up to a month to update their records and submit this to the Supreme Court. |
| Q. |
I have a G4 Macintosh computer running Windows Media Player and Real Player, both of which are working fine. Can I view these online seminars with my system? |
A.
 |
We do not specifically support the MAC OS but do have quite a few customers using MAC so we try to help out as much as possible. We try to determine what is causing a specific problem and try to help get the issue resolved but can only do so within a limited scope. The MAC OS X system (which seems to be what the majority of people are running) has Internet Explorer 5.2 and Windows Media Player 9.0 installed. The problem is that there isn’t a codec (an algorithm that codes and decodes media streams) available for Media Player that will allow you to hear seminars, you can only see them. Some of our affiliates offer RealPlayer streams but not all of them and some seminars (especially the Live Casts) come only in Media Player streams. That aside, we have had success running seminars on both MAC OS 9 and OS X operation systems:
- In MAC OS 9 we are using Windows Internet Explorer 5 and Windows Media Player 7 (Real Player does not work),
- In MAC OS X we are using Windows Internet Explorer 5.2, Windows Media Player 9, and RealPlayer 10 (Sometimes Windows Media Player 9 will not have the correct audio codec for the seminar to work).
If you are running MAC OS X, with Windows Media Player 9, and you get an error regarding a missing codec then...
Revert to the OS 9 Classic Environment, which uses Windows Media Player 7, and Internet Explorer 5.
Note: If you are using OS X.3 you might have to install the OS 9 classic environment from the installation disk, if you have X.4 then the classic environment is not included. If this is the case, and we cannot get it to work with RealPlayer, then a refund will probably need to be issued.
To run seminars in the MAC Classic Environment do the following: Note: When OS X installed it made a folder called [Applications (MAC OS 9)] and when you click on an application in that folder it will launch the classic environment (I think this is Apples way of making their software backward compatible).
- Open the hard drive on the desktop
- Click on the [Application (MAC OS 9)] folder
- Click on the [Internet Explorer 5] folder
- Click on the [Internet Explorer] icon
This will open IE in the OS 9 environment and it should let you run the media streams. The only caution here is that it is using Media Player 7.1, not 9.0 so there might be some that will not play. If you are still having problems call us at 877.880.1335
|
| Q. |
My Internet security setting will not let a new codec be installed. |
A.
 |
The definition of a codec is a compressor/decompressor algorithm that allows data to be compressed on one computer and then, decompressed on another computer. When Internet Explorer is first installed, the default security setting does not allow for the downloading of unsigned ActiveX controls. This means that if the codec does not have a signed security certificate, Internet Explorer will not download it. To set your security in Internet Explorer so that it will prompt you when it receives a request to load an unsigned ActiveX control, follow the Guide below:
Click here for an Illustrated Guide on How to Set My Internet Security Settings to Allow Unassigned ActiveX Controls
After you have changed the setting on the guide above do the following:
Navigate to your account at Legalspan, make sure you are in the [My Account] tab.
Click on the Play Seminar link for the Seminar that you want to play.
Click on the [Continue on to Seminar] link at the top or bottom of the page.
Click on the video/audio stream type and speed you want
Any warning boxes that come up, click [Yes].
Note: You can go back and set your security setting so that it will not download or prompt you to download unsigned ActiveX controls. If you leave the setting at prompt and you get a message to download an unsigned control, make sure you know who it is from before accepting it. |
| Q. |
No combination of filters could be found to render the stream. |
A.
 |
The media player plug-in used in the browser is not compatible with the media player itself so they do not communicate correctly. This situation usually occurs when a software image is loaded on the computer. To check if this is the problem:
- First, check the plug-in version number. Click here for an illustrated Guide
- Next, check the player’s version number. Click here for an illustrated Guide
Below the first version number is the plug-in, and the second is the media player.
Version 6.4 will work with Version 6.4
Version 6.4 will work with Version 7.1
Version 6.4 will work with Version 8.0
Version 9.0 will work with Version 9.0
Version 10.0 will work with Version 10.0
If your plug-in and media player are not compatible you will need to re-install the media player. Click Here to Install the Newest version of Windows Media Player
Note: If you are in an office where you do not have sufficient administrative rights on your computer, then have somebody that does (usually the IT department) install it.
|
| Q. |
What is Multi-User Registration? |
A.
 |
If you would like to register multiple people for one seminar, you may do so by clicking on the “Click to Add Multiple Users” link. This link will provide you with a drop down menu, where you may select the desired quantity of that particular seminar. Once your order has been processed, you will be prompted to transfer the seminar(s) to other users. You also have the option of assigning one of the purchased seminars to yourself. |
| Q. |
When I click on the "Launch Seminar" button, nothing happens. What should I do? |
A.
 |
Popup Blockers:
If you use a Popup Blocker, such as Ad Subtract, STOPzilla, Stop-the-Pop, or one of the many others on the market, you will need to disable it in order to view our seminars. These utilities prevent the Javascript "window open" command from running which prevents our viewer from opening.
Click Here for an illustrated guide to disabling most pop-up blockers
Some ways of getting around a pop-up blocker are to hold down the [Shift] key, while pressing the [Launch Seminar] button or Right-clicking the [Launch Seminar] link and clicking [Open In New Window].
Viewer May Already be Open:
For a quick way to cycle through all the programs that are open in you system. Hold down the [Alt] key while tapping the [Tab] key. When you let go of the [Alt] key, the program that is selected will then come to the front. |
| Q. |
When I try to open the materials it does one of the following:
- nothing
- gives an error
- the document appears garbled. |
A.
 |
Cause(s)
- Sometimes Adobe Reader cannot display a document that is being sourced over the internet. This usually indicates that you have an older version of Adobe Acrobat Reader that cannot handle PDF documents created with a newer version of Acrobat Reader.
- When you click on a link to the materials, and nothing happens, this could be a sign that a pop-up blocker of some sort that is blocking the link from being opened.
- If you get an error when you click on the link to the materials telling you that there is currently no program available to open this type of media, you probably do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system, or Adobe Acrobat Reader is not recognizing the PDF file type.
Solution(s)
- Try right-clicking on the document link and select "Save Target As..." to save the document to your computer and then open it from place you saved it to. Note: Make a note of where you save the document to, we suggest saving it to your Desktop for easier retrieval.
- Check in the Add/Remove Programs module in Control Panel and see what version of Adobe Reader you have and to see if there is more than one version listed.
- Click on the [START] button on the Task Bar and select [Control Panel].
- Click on the [Add/Remove Programs] in the Control Panel.
- Check for both Adobe Reader and Acrobat Reader in the list.
- If the version number is earlier than 5 or there are more than one listed: [Remove] all of them.
- Go to www.adobe.com and download Adobe Reader 7.0.5. Note: If you do not want the extra downloads make sure to uncheck the boxes under [Also Download:] before downloading.
- Install Adobe Reader and try opening the document again.
- If you are still having problems, please contact us at 877.880.1335.
|
| Q. |
Why is the seminar blurry? |
A.
 |
Cause(s)
There are a couple of different causes as to why the seminar would be blurry.
Solution(s)
- The quality of the seminar is relative to the speed of your modem. If you are using a 56k modem to access the seminar, your connection speed may be too slow to get a high-quality video stream; therefore, the seminar may appear blurry or be delivered like a filmstrip instead of a movie.
- The problem may lie with your video-player settings. In the settings for the RealOne Player or Windows Media Player, please be sure you have selected the proper modem speed. There are fields for minimum and maximum speeds which, if incorrectly set, will limit the amount of bandwidth the incoming video stream can use.
Note: To accommodate all internet connnections, we usually provide the stream with two different resolutions. We provide one for dial-up connections (56k modem or lower), and another for "High Speed" connections (DSL, cable modem, etc.). Like with any common picture of a certain resolution, the larger you expand the image the more blurry and distorted the image will get. The high speed option takes up more internet bandwidth, therefore, making the quality of the image better. Due to pixel limitations of the seminars, the image might become blurry and out of focus the larger you make the image. |
| Q. |
Windows Media Player buffers in the middle of a video and/or the video seems really choppy. |
A.
 |
Cause(s)
Running the Seminar in the High-Speed option, using a Dial-up connection.
If there is a lot of internet traffic in the office you are watching it from, the seminar will slow down.
Sometime a Wireless Internet Connection can slow the video stream down, causing the video to be choppy and buffer.
The buffer size that Windows Media Player is set to is too low.
If Windows Media Player/Real Player you are using, protocols other than HTTP Solution(s)
-
Follow this guide to optimize Windows Media Player for streaming video...
An Illustrated Guide to Optimizing your streaming video/audio experience, and stop the buffering!!
- If you are on a Dial-Up connection, the recommended speed is [Normal Speed] (or [Audio Only] for even slower connections); [High-Speed] is meant for DSL/Cable/T1 connections.
- Also, Windows media codecs are optimized for Pentium III and run fine on Pentium II, but on a Pentium Processor or lower, they choke completely. Older hardware (Processors earlier the Pentium II), Operating System (earlier the Window 98SE), Older browsers (Netscape earlier the Version 3 and Internet Explorer before Version 3), or inadequate system resources (Memory, Video Memory, etc.) can cause problems viewing seminars.

A.
 |
This could be caused by a number of things...
- Be sure to wait for the media to finish packaging before clicking on the [Download] button.
- Try right-clicking on the [Download] button, then select [Save target as…]
For any Questions/Comments please contact our support center using one of the following methods:

| Q. |
I downloaded my CLEtoGo\CEtoGo\Podcast seminar and now I can’t find it. |
A.
 |
- This can happen when you download the seminar and you click on [Open] instead of [Save]. This saves the seminar in a Temporary Folder marked for future deletion. In this case, the quickest way to find the file is to go back to your account and redownload the CLEtoGo, and this time click the [Save] button, to a place of easy retrieval, like the [Desktop], or the [My Documents] folder.
- Another way to find the file is to do a search for the term (CLEtoGo, CEtoGo, or Podcast) by clicking on the [Start] menu, then selecting [Search]. Be sure that it is set to search all the Hard Disk Drives on your computer.

 |
Our CLEtoGo (Podcast - MP3) files do not come segmented which can present a challenge when trying to burn a seminar that is several hours in length. Here is a link to instructions on how to segment large audio files using iTunes 3:

| How the PBI Online Campus Works |
| Q. |
How does the Online Campus work? |
A.
 |
The online campus replicates the experience of a classroom seminar, with some enhancements that take advantage of the Internet.
Video or audio of the recorded program "streams" in a window on your computer.
The practical, high quality "yellow books" for which PBI is known throughout the Commonwealth are provided in electronic form as files that can be saved on computer and printed for reference during the program.
You can submit questions or comments to the faculty and other participants.
Many courses also include PowerPoint outlines that appear on screen as the program plays, with hyperlinks added so that you can open and follow cases, statutes, regulations, and other primary law as it is discussed.
These outlines can also be printed for note-taking.
Most programs have been pre-recorded and are available at any time, at the convenience of the attorney.
Others are live "webcasts" of the Institute's programs that are also broadcast by satellite.
For a detailed "how to" overview of the system, click
here |
| Q. |
How does the system track my participation? |
A.
 |
The system unobtrusively monitors an attorney's participation. To get credit, the lawyer must view (or listen to) all the segments of the program.
Live webcasts are treated differently from archived programs.
Podcasts (CLEtoGo) have a unique four-letter code that you enter into your online account to get credit when you've listened to the course. |
| Q. |
Do I have to finish a course as soon as I buy it? |
A.
 |
No. You can take the course any time within 90 days of purchase. Exception: Live webcasts are must be taken on the day of the course. |
| Q. |
Do I have to finish a course in one sitting? |
A.
 |
No. You have 3 months from date of purchase to complete a course. The system will remember the last segment that you completed and start at the beginning of the next one. You can also return to a completed course any time within three months from when you bought it.
Exception: Live webcasts must be taken on the day of the course. |
| Q. |
I took part of a course and now I want to finish it. How do I get to back to it? |
A.
 |
Go to the Catalog and then to your Account (linked in the upper right corner of the Catalog page). |
| Q. |
How do I pay for Online CLE courses (including webcasts)? |
A.
 |
Simply click the "Buy Now" button and use your credit card (VISA, MasterCard, or American Express) to register using our secure system. (Sorry, we cannot accept fax or check registrations for online CLE.) |
| Q. |
How much time do I have before my access to an online course expires? |
A.
 |
Most online courses are available for three months from date of purchase. |
| Q. |
I'm having technical problems. I need help NOW! |
A.
 |
Use the tech support link on our Catalog page.
A phone number will appear during phone support hours, but we recommend that you click on the Tech Support link. It answers the most common tech questions "du jour."
If you still need help, the e-mail support system linked at the bottom of that document will automatically analyze your computer system and enable LegalSpan, our technical partner for Online CLE, to call you quickly with an answer customized to your particular problem. |
| Q. |
Will the Online Campus work on my Macintosh? |
A.
 |
Unfortunately, we cannot promise that it will -- but it might! You will need a recent-version web browser, Real Player, and Adobe Acrobat Reader. We suggest that you try viewing one of our free demos (see the Catalog). If that works for you, chances are other courses will work. If you have problems, use the Tech Support link on our Catalog home page. |
| Q. |
My access to a course has expired. How do I regain access? |
A.
 |
As long as the course has not been removed from our online campus, you can extend your access to a course upon payment of a nominal fee. Just go to your online account and click the "Extend expiration" button for that course. (We remove courses when more recent versions become available or when the content is too old.) |
| Q. |
How do I know that I have finished a course? |
A.
 |
Your account lists courses you purchased, and indicates whether or not you have completed each of them.
When you have finished watching the video (or listening to the audio), you can click on the certificate tab or the evaluation tab at the bottom of the screen (on in your online account). The system will display your certificate of participation, which you can print or receive and save by email.
Once you have your certificate, you have completed the course. |

| Telephone / Tele-Web / Webinar |
| Q. |
How do I connect to the web presentation part of my Web Seminar? |
A.
 |
- Go to the association’s webpage that you made the purchase from.
- Then click on the green [Log in|Sign up] button at the top right of the catalog.
- Sign in as a returning customer using your Email address and password that you created.
- Once you have logged in, click on the [My Account] tab on the gray bar across the top of the catalog.
- Then once in the My Account section, you can access the web presentation by clicking on the green [Launch Web Seminar] button.
|
| Q. |
I never received an email confirmation or my Dial-in Number/PIN. |
A.
 |
- The confirmation email can get caught in a SPAM filter or tossed into the Junk Mail folder on your system.
- The email address may have been entered in wrong. The email was sent, but you did receive the email due to an invalid email address.
- The Dial-in Number/PIN is located in the confirmation email that you will receive after purchase. You can, also, get this information from your account directly below the seminar.
|
| Q. |
The program materials are posted, but when I click on the link in my email, it says “No Materials Available”. |
A.
 |
Sometimes the link in the confirmation email can get broken if the link is too long. When you click on the link, it will take you to your account, but the seminar will not show up under [My Items].
- Copy/paste the entire URL from the email into an internet browser.
- The second way is to click on the [Log Off] link at the top right-hand side of the catalog. Then, click on the green [Log in|Sign up] button. You will log in on the left-hand side of the page as a returning customer. Once you are logged in, click on the [My Account] tab, and you will see all courses purchased.
|
| Q. |
When I click on the link in my email that says “Click here to access your user account”, it opens a page with nothing under My Items. |
A.

| Live Webcasts |
| Q. |
How do live webcasts differ from other online programs? |
A.
 |
You are participating in the actual seminar with live faculty and hundreds of other participants (including those taking the program as a satellite teleconference at downlink sites all over Pennsylvania).
The information is "slip opinion current" because it is live. Other programs are archived copies of courses that were recorded earlier. |
| Q. |
I don't seem to be getting a pop-up box saying "click to continue." Will I get credit? |
A.
 |
Yes you will.
The pop-up boxes are used in our archived courses. We use a different method of tracking your participation in live webcasts. |
| Q. |
What if I have a question for the faculty? |
A.
 |
Use the Questions tab to submit your question.
Our staff will print it and give it to the speakers along with questions that are phoned or faxed in from those attending the live satellite sites. The speakers will answer them during the question and answer session, time permitting.
(The same Questions tab is used for our archived programs, but in that case no faculty are available to provide an immediate answer. We email those questions to the faculty and ask them to respond as soon as possible.) |
| |
| Miscellaneous FAQs |
| Q. |
Will I have to wait for PBI to send me the book? |
A.
 |
No. Instead of a "hard copy," the course materials are included in electronic format. (These are part or all of a "yellow book," depending on whether the program is part or all of the original course.)
As soon as you purchase a course, you will be able to save and print the course materials.
You can keep them on your computer and print them at your convenience. Instead of printing them, you may choose simply to use the searchable electronic copy on your computer.
You will have permanent access to the copy that you save on your computer.
If you don't save the materials when you first purchase the course, you will continue to have access as long as you have access to the course (usually, three months from date of purchase, even after you complete the course and obtain your certificate of participation).
|
| Q. |
What discounts are available for online CLE from PBI? |
A.
 |
We have developed a bulk purchase discount program for law firms, county bar associations, and any other groups that can pool their resources.
Sorry, no other discount programs are applicable to our Online Campus.
Contact Susan Swope if you are interested in our bulk purchase program. |
| Q. |
Do the PBA member coupons apply to online CLE? |
A.
 |
Sorry, no. |
| Q. |
Does PBI's scholarship program apply to online courses? |
A.
 |
Sorry, we are not able to offer scholarships to our online courses. |
| Q. |
How do I find out about new courses? |
A.
 |
Go to your Account (it is linked in the upper right corner of the main Catalog page) and sign up for email notification of new courses in your areas of practice.
If you don't yet have an account, Sign Up for one. You don't have to buy a course to have an account.
You will also see a "New" symbol in front of new courses in the catgory lists in the catalog. Courses added in the past 30 days are "new." |
| Q. |
Most of your courses have video. Why are some audio only? |
A.
 |
In order to bring you as many programs as possible, we record multiple sessions of some of our Institutes. We use our video cameras in one session, and audio recording equipment in another.
Also:
--the Justice Talking series is a radio program and only audio recordings are available.
--CLEtoGo (podcasts) is available only as audio (with the course materials in the same format as online CLE). |
| Q. |
The deadline for me to complete a course that I purchased has expired. I'd still like to take it. What do I do? |
A.
 |
See "My access to a course has expired...." |
| Q. |
The program date is in the past. Does that mean I missed it? |
A.
 |
No. That is the date the program was recorded. All programs on our online campus are available "24/7" at your convenience (except for live webcasts--available at the time and date indicated and later archived for 24/7 access like all our other online programs). |
| Q. |
What can I look forward to in the future? |
A.
 |
PBI plans to develop periodic Internet-only updates in every major area of practice. Within weeks of a landmark case or new legislation, onlinecle.pbi.org will feature a seminar where some of the Commonwealth's best attorneys explore the implications and offer practical tips. |
| Q. |
I have other questions. How do I get answers? |
