Like for profit and governmental entities, nonprofits are sometimes prone to unethical if not illegal behavior, even in the best of times. The sector is driven by people from the communities for which they exist, and the law of averages dictates that there is going to be some bad behavior. Factor in a struggling economy and the likelihood of bad behavior only increases. In this ethics hour, our experienced panelists address some common areas of exposure for the sector, such as adhering to donor intent, the pitfalls of bad governance policies, and failing to spend contributions consistently with solicitations.
