Our instructors provide an overview of shale gas extraction, focusing on the technique known as hydraulic fracturing or "fracking." The practice of hydraulic fracturing has come under scrutiny due to environmental concerns over the highly pressurized fluids used in the process. Indeed, one of the central disputes over Marcellus Shale drilling is the impact of fracking water on the environment. The panelists address what fracking water is, how it is used, and how it may (or may not) be regulated.
This course was recorded in October 2011 at PBI's Second Annual Power Law Conference. Other sessions from the conference are available at PBI's Online Campus.
