Be all that you can be. Not just the signature slogan of the U.S. Army Corps, it is the American dream, of which education, employment, and independence are important parts. Not too long ago, children with exceptionalities were denied access to education and opportunities to learn. The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) removed the barrier separating special education from general education, and put the needs of students with disabilities front and center.
Today, an increasing number of students with disabilities graduate from high school—many of those even moving on to postsecondary education, as opposed to the percentage who dropped out of school before the IDEA and NCLB. Legislators, advocates, parents, attorneys, teachers, doctors, counselors—the list is endless—all visionaries in their own way, set the wheels of change in motion every day to create an environment where every single child has many voices.
This conference is more than just learning about special education law; it is about becoming one of those voices, effecting change, and helping every child live the American dream: to be all that he or she can be.
Join the PBI and PBA Legal Services for Exceptional Children Committee for an exciting day of sharing, exchanging, debating, discussing, learning, and growing.
