THIS IS THE ARCHIVED PROGRAM, ORIGINALLY WEBCASTED ON 4-14-10.   This program does NOT qualify for CLE credit.

Hear directly from Chief Justice John T. Broderick, Jr. about the potential impact of $4 million in additional cuts to the Judicial Branch for the next year.

Likely outcomes of the additional cuts include:

  • 10 judicial vacancies left unfilled
  • Elimination of all per diem payments to part-time judges
  • No civil jury trials
  • Additional court closures due to security cutbacks

After the Chief Justice`s presentation, NHBA`s President-Elect Marilyn McNamara, facilitated a Q&A with online bar members and the Chief Justice, and discussed what the Bar Association is doing about the budget crisis with Executive Director Jeannine McCoy, and what individual Bar members can do.

A joint House-Senate Finance Committee public hearing on the latest round of proposed cuts is scheduled for April 15.

The Bar Association is concerned that cuts of this magnitude will disrupt access to the courts for all citizens and will cause lasting damage to our justice system.   If you are concerned as well, now is the time to make your concerns known to your legislators and to the governor.

Potential client / constituent harm is the most effective argument for adequate court resources. You have the information to help build this case.   Please pass it on to us  and speak directly to lawmakers.
