Medicare and Social Security Issues for Mediators (from, "Workers' Compensation for Mediators, Training for the Industrial Commission Neutral", June 3, 2004)
Mediators are more and more being called into workers’ compensation Social Security and Medicare claim disputes. This program is designed to give the mediator an overview of Social Security and Medicare issues. Subjects discussed include the Social Security offset calculation, offset language, tax issues, health insurance, considering Medicare’s interests, annuities, and the Medicare set-aside. The program concludes with who will bear the risk if Medicare requires more funds in order to approve the set-aside.
