The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act 20th Anniversary Conference was held on October 16 -17, 2008 at the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort & Casino in Arizona. The conference was a balanced twenty year retrospective of the successes, failures and impact of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988.
The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was enacted in 1988 and Indian gaming has grown enormously in the twenty years since. How has the IGRA changed Indian country, how has it affected tribal governmental relationships with the states, with the federal government, and with tribal members? This conference examined the impacts of the IGRA and the Indian gaming industry through the eyes of tribal leaders, scholars, and those who were there when the IGRA became law.
Sponsored by: Indian Legal Program at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, American Indian Policy Institute at ASU, American Indian Law Center, Inc., Native Nations Law and Policy Center at UCLA, National Congress of American Indians, National Indian Gaming Association, Arizona Indian Gaming Association, California Nations Indian Gaming Association, and the New Mexico Indian Gaming Association.
