Letha McDowell Oast & Hook PC Letha Sgritta McDowell is a partner in the law firm of Oast & Hook, P.C., where she practices in the areas of elder law, estate and trust administration, estate planning, asset protection planning, long term care planning, and tax law. Ms. McDowell is a 2001 graduate of Purdue University and a 2004 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law.Ms. McDowell is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the North Carolina State Bar, the Federal District Court Bar for the Eastern District of North Carolina, the North Carolina Bar Association's Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section and the Elder Law Section.Ms. McDowell is currently on the editorial Committee of "The Will and The Way" which is the North Carolina Bar Association's newsletter for the Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section. Ms. McDowell is also writing the legislative updates for the North Carolina Bar Association's newsletter "Gray Matters". She has taught numerous continuing professional education programs for a variety of audiences including a Virginia CLE program on the Taxation of Care Coordination Agreements and Preparation of Form 706. Ms. McDowell is currently assisting in developing and testing software to assist other Elder Law attorneys in their practice.Ms. McDowell is an accredited attorney for the preparation, presentation, and prosecution of claims for veterans benefits before the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). She has also been approved to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.Ms. McDowell is also a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Hampton Roads Estate Planning Council. Ms. McDowell is also active with the Norfolk SPCA and the Hampton Roads Purdue Alumni Club. |
