Jacqueline J. Shafer, Esq., MSW Elliott Magee & Shafer, L.L.P., Doylestown Ms. Shafer is a partner with the firm of Elliott, Magee & Shafer in Doylestown, where her practice areas include elder law, wills, special needs trusts, guardianships, disability and life care planning, medical assistance planning, health care issues and aging and elder mediation. She is a member of the Montgomery (Elder Law Section) and Pennsylvania Bar Associations and the American Bar Association, and is also admitted to practice in New Jersey. Before entering practice in Pennsylvania, Ms. Shafer was the Vice President of Marketing and Development at an area Continuing Care Retirement Community and was a surveyor for CARF-CCAC (an accrediting body for CCRC campuses nationwide and internationally). Prior to this position, she was the facility’s social worker and Director of Resident Support Services, where she maintained an extensive geriatric case-management practice. As a Master’s level, licensed social worker, Ms. Shafer has significant experience in health and mental health care settings, private marriage and family counseling, and was also a former policy analyst for the New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services, where she reported on legislative issues in the U.S. Congress to the Department’s Commissioner and to various other agencies within State government. Ms. Shafer has taught health care courses on social and psychological aspects of aging to nurses and certified nurse aides, and has taught a master’s level course to a wide variety of practitioners on Introductory Health Law and Ethics through the St. Francis University satellite campus program. She has also taught many community courses to seniors on health care issues. An active member of her home community, Ms. Shafer is a member of the Foundation Board of her local hospital, serves on the Ethics Committee of her former CCRC, and serves as legal counsel to a local quarterly newspaper. Ms. Shafer earned her J.D. from Widener University School of Law in Delaware; a Masters of Counseling and Administration in Social Work from Rutgers, the State University in New Brunswick, N.J.; and a dual bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Social Work from Cedar Crest College in Allentown.
