PATRICIA A. SALLEN is Director of Special Services and Ethics/Deputy General Counsel for the State Bar of Arizona, supervising programs such as ethics, fee arbitration and unauthorized practice of law. Part of her job is advising lawyers on resolving ethical dilemmas and providingeducation about the Rules of Professional Conduct via continuing legal education seminars and ethics opinions. She has worked for the State Bar as a bar counsel in the Lawyer Regulation Office, investigating and prosecuting ethics complaints against attorneys, and has been in privatepractice, where she focused on media and intellectual property law and general civil and appellate litigation. She received her law degree from Arizona State University and bachelorís degree from the University of Arizona (journalism). During law school, she interned for then-Arizona Court of Appeals Judge Robert J. Corcoran and after law school clerked for Arizona Court of Appeals Judge Sarah D. Grant. In addition to law practice, she has been a newspaper reporter and editor. She was one of three recipients of the State Barís1994 Award of Special Merit and received an award in 1996 for distinguished service to the University of Arizona Journalism Department. Shealso was the State Barís 2008 employee of the year. She is a frequent presenter at CLE seminars and is an adjunct professor of professional responsibility at the ASU Sandra Day OíConnor College of Law.
