David C. Halkett is a partner at McQuarrie Hunter LLP in Vancouver and his preferred areas of practice are:

  • Family law litigation, including divorce, custody, guardianship, access, personal and financial restraining orders, spousal support, child support and property division arising from marriage and marriage-like relationships.
  • General civil litigation.
  • Criminal defence litigation.

David is a member of several professional associations, including the Canadian Bar Association where he has a particular interest in the constitutional, family and civil litigation sections. He was co-chair of the Westminster Family Law Subsection from 2005-2006. He authored a chapter in the British Columbia Family Practice Manual on Judicial Case Conferences, Settlement Conferences and Pre-Trial Conferences. David is a past president of the Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce. He has given seminars to a variety of social organizations.

David studied at the University of British Columbia where he received a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1988 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1991. He was called to the B.C. Bar in 1992 and joined McQuarrie Hunter LLP in 2003.

In his spare time, David reads widely on a variety of history topics and writes a column on the Montréal Canadiens for a sports-related website.
