Elihu M. Berle
Hon. Elihu M. Berle is the Supervising Judge of the Civil Departments of the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles. From his appointment to the Superior Court in 1996 through 1998 he presided over a felony trial courtroom, and from 1999 to 2008 he presided over an individual calendar fast track courtroom at the Stanley Mosk Central Civil Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Berle was in the private practice of law for over twenty-six years, specializing in business and commercial litigation. Judge Berle has served as chair of the Judicial Council of California Civil & Small Claims Advisory Committee (2002-2006); chair of the Los Angeles Superior Court Rules Committee (2001-2008); chair of the National Conference of State Trial Judges (American Bar Association) (2004-2005); trustee of the National Judicial College (2002-2008); and president of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (1985-1986). He has lectured and has been a presenting panelist on various legal issues, including civil litigation, trial preparation, case management, business courts, complex litigation, bankruptcy matters, and arbitration.
