Douglas E. Smith is the Office Managing Shareholder for the Seattle office of Littler Mendelson, P.C. Doug advises employers on a wide variety of employment law issues, including compliance with federal and state wage and hour requirements. Over the past 20 years, Doug has defended numerous national and regional clients in individual and class action litigation involving wage and hour claims, including Abercrombie & Fitch, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Frito-Lay and Nordstrom. Doug has also represented employers in responding to wage and hour investigations by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. Doug received his law degree from the University of Oregon, Order of the Coif, and his undergraduate degree from Stanford University. He is a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow, and an active member of both the Employment Law Committee of the Association of Washington Business and the Employment Law Advisory Committee to the Department of Labor & Industries. Doug is a regular speaker on class action and wage and hour issues, and has authored several articles on class action litigation and wage and hour compliance. Doug has also consulted on a variety of legislative matters, and has testified before the Washington State Legislature on numerous class action and wage and hour issues.
