Wayne McCormick MD, MPH, FACP, CMD Section Chief, UWAMC Long Term Care Service Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Wayne is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington, Department of Medicine, Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, Harborview Medical Center. He is a graduate of Washington University Medical School in St. Louis and of the University of Washington School of Public Health in Seattle. He did his medical internship, internal medicine residency, and chief residency at Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. He came to Seattle in 1987 for the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program and residency in Preventive Medicine at the University of Washington, after which he completed a fellowship in geriatrics at UW. Hence he is board certified in medicine, preventive medicine and public health, palliative medicine, and geriatrics.He spends half of work-days in clinical and educational work, in clinics, medical wards, and long term care settings, and is lecturer for the geriatrics module of the introduction to clinical medicine courses at UW. He is Medical Director of Bailey Boushay House (an AIDS long term care facility and day health center) and Section Chief of the UW Medicine Long Term Care Service, a team of providers caring for over 600 patients in 20 nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and group homes. He is also Medical Director for the Visiting Nurses Association of the Pacific Northwest, Providence Hospice of Seattle, aswell as Rosehedge House, a home care agency and adult family home for persons with AIDS. The other half of workdays are spent pursuing research interests, which include home care and long term care for persons with AIDS and persons with Alzheimer's disease, funded through 4 NIH grants and one HRSA grant. Involvement in home care and long term care is his particular expertise, as well as in vertical integration of nursing homes and home care agencies with hospital/ambulatory care health systems. He is on the Board of the American Academy of Home Care Physicians, Chairman of the Medical Records Committee and Past-President of the Medical Staff of Harborview Medical Center, a Certified Medical Director inAMDA, and a former member of the HIV/AIDS Planning Council.[June 2009] |
