James E. Cason

James Cason was appointed in August 2001 to serve as Associate Deputy Secretary for the Department of the Interior. In January 2005 he was tasked with fulfilling the responsibilities of the Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs. For the past three-and-a half years, he has worked extensively on a variety of Indian issues including law enforcement, land management and fractionation, trust responsibilities, historical accounting, and probate.Mr. Cason was recently vice president of risk management for the Niagara Falls, N .Y. based Unifrax Corporation, an international manufacturing firm specializing in energy saving products. He managed the corporationís health, safety and environmental quality program, property and casualty insurance program, and product liability litigation, and he worked with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Jim also worked with Canadaís equivalent to the EPA, Environment Canadian.Prior to that, Mr. Cason worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, as a manager for the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation from 1990 to 1993. Before that he served as acting assistant secretary and principal deputy assistant secretary of the Interior Department for Land and Minerals Management from 1985 to 1990. From 1982 to 1985, he served as special assistant to the director of Interiorís Bureau of Land Management.Jim, formerly from Portland, recently resides in Youngstown, N.Y. Jim earned a bachelorís degree in business administration and graduated magna cum laude from Pacific University.
