Hon. Margaret T. Murphy Supervising Judge, Family Court Division Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas, Philadelphia Judge Murphy’s career in Philadelphia’s Family Court spans 25 years. Since 2000, Judge Murphy has served on the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and has presided over Domestic Relations matters in the Family Division. In 2006, she was appointed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to the position of supervising judge of Domestic Relations. As supervising judge, she is responsible for supervising all aspects of the processing of Domestic Relations cases in Philadelphia County, including custody, divorce and equitable distribution, domestic violence, support matters, and the annual collection of $209.8 million in child and spousal support payments. Judge Murphy is a frequent lecturer on the topic of Family Law for many organizations, including the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Philadelphia Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, the Domestic Relations Association of Pennsylvania, the Forum for Executive Women, Philadelphia VIP, Citizens Crime Commission and various educational, civic, law enforcement, and professional organizations. In 1999, she became the first recipient of the Herbert R. Weiman, Jr. Award from the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Family Law Section for her many contributions and achievements as court administrator of Philadelphia’s Domestic Relations Division. In 1993, she received an award from the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Family Law Section for dedicated service to the public and the bar. Judge Murphy was a member of the Board of Directors of the Domestic Relations Association of Pennsylvania (1996–2000). Judge Murphy has served as a Board of Director of Aria Health System (formerly Frankford Health Care System) since 1993, where she presently holds the office of board secretary and member of the executive committee. Judge Murphy has served as a board member of CORA since 2002, where she is a member of the executive committee. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Jefferson Health System from 1998 to 2008, Judge Murphy received her master of law in taxation (LL.M) from Villanova University School of Law, her juris doctorate (cum laude) from Widener University School of Law, and her bachelor’s degree from Chestnut Hill College. Her academic honors include membership in Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the Moot Court Honor Society, and she served as associate editor of the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law Review.
