THE HONORABLE STEVEN D. SHELDON is currently assigned to Family Court. He has beenactively involved in the Courtís Mental Health Committee and was the past Chair of that committee.He spearheaded efforts to provide a more abbreviated assessment of parental fitness whichculminated in the Courtís adoption of The Court Ordered Preliminary Screening process in 2003.He has previously served on Special Assignment(1999-2001), handling difficult and complex civiland criminal cases, and previously presided over civil (1994-1999) and criminal calendars(1989-1994). Judge Sheldon attended California State Polytechnic University in Pomona and graduatedfrom Loyola University School of Law in 1974, cum laude. He was admitted to the Arizona Bar andthe Federal District Court for Arizona in 1974 and was in private and public practice before joiningthe FBI in 1977. From 1977 to 1982, he was a Special Agent with the FBI, specializing in criminaland foreign counter-intelligence investigations. He then joined the Arizona Court of Appeals as aStaff Attorney, where he was the Vice Chief Staff Attorney prior to his appointment.
