The Honorable R. Stanton Wettick, Jr., is the Special Motions Judge for discovery and other contested matters in the Civil Division of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. In this capacity, for more than 25 years, he has presided over weekly Friday afternoon “happy hour” discovery motion arguments. He is the author of six volumes of Allegheny County Discovery Opinions, published by the Allegheny County Law Library, and relied upon by judges and counsel throughout the Commonwealth as an authoritative source of discovery law and practice. He also holds the following positions on the Court: Special Motions Judge for General Docket and Arbitration Proceedings of the Civil Division; and one of two judges assigned to the Commerce and Complex Litigation Center of the Civil Division. He previously served as Administrative Judge of the Civil Division and of the Family Division (Juvenile and Adult Sections) of the Common Pleas Court of Allegheny County, and as a judge of the Juvenile Section of the Family Division. Judge Wettick previously chaired and is presently a member emeritus of the Civil Procedural Rules Committee of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and an adjunct professor of law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law teaching Pennsylvania Civil Procedure and Professional Responsibility. He received his B.A. (1960) from Amherst College and his LL.B. (1963) from Yale Law School.
