Ms. Hazen is certified as an elder law attorney (CELA) by the National Elder Law Foundation. She is a past president and one of the founding members of the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys (PAELA) and is a past chair of the Elder Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. She is President of the Special Needs Alliance (SNA), a national nonprofit organization of attorneys dedicated to disability and public benefits law. She also serves on the Grass Roots Advocacy Committee for the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and is a member of the Pennsylvania, Dauphin County and Cumberland County Bar Associations. Ms. Hazen is actively involved in the legislative advocacy activities of PAELA, the PBA Elder Law Section, the SNA, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the preparation, presentation, and prosecution of claims for veterans’ benefits before the Veterans Administration. Ms. Hazen serves on the Elder Abuse Task Force for Dauphin County, and as a pro bono monitor for the Dauphin County Orphans’ Court guardianship monitoring program. At the request of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, Ms. Hazen has taught the Apprise coordinators regarding long term care legal issues and was appointed as a delegate to Pennsylvania’s Quality at End of Life Symposium. She frequently serves on the faculty for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, providing continuing legal education for attorneys. Ms. Hazen has also been a guest lecturer for the Temple University graduate program in social work, the Penn State graduate program in public health administration, the Penn State Dickinson School of Law, Widener University School of Law and the Harrisburg Area Community College. She received her B.A. in economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she graduated magna cum laude, and her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Ms. Hazen has been selected for inclusion in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® in elder law and as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Pennsylvania. She has also been selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America, and has received Martindale-Hubbell’s highest lawyer rating of AV®.
