Alicia Richards
abc27 News, Harrisburg

Ms. Richards joined abc27 News in January of 1994, from KCRG-TV, the ABC Affiliate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she also anchored. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Ms. Richards grew up in a suburb of Chicago, and attended Southern Methodist University where she earned a B.F.A. At abc27, her regular reports include the award-winning “Buddy Check 27,” “On the Town” and “Crimestoppers.” Ms. Richards was recently awarded first place in the Associated Press Individual Reporting Category for 2002. Ms. Richards also reports on location. One of her favorite assignments was covering the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia in 2000. More recently, she traveled to the South American country of Ecuador with staff from Penn State’s Hershey Medical Center. The doctors performed life-saving heart surgery on indigent children there. Ms. Richards’ in-depth reports chronicled that dramatic week. When asked what she really enjoys about her job, she replied: “The ability to use the power of television to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Also, it’s exciting!” Ms. Richards enjoys horseback riding, tennis, good movies and travel… the last of which she means! She has visited Europe, Russia, Africa and South America. Ms. Richards is also a board member of the Alzheimer’s Association.
