James W. Nass, Oregon Court of Appeals, Salem. Mr. Nass is the Appellate Commissioner for the Oregon Court of Appeals, where he decides motions, particularly substantive motions, filed in the Court of Appeals, advises the Court of Appeals and clerk of the court regarding appellate procedural matters, and participates in the development of the appellate eCourt program and confidentiality standards for eCourt for both trial and appellate courts. He also serves as Appellate Legal Counsel to the Oregon Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, where he advises appellate courts and the clerk of the court regarding appellate procedural matters, reviews and makes recommended dispositions of substantive motions, provides information to practitioners and litigants regarding appellate procedure, and acts as liaison between the Supreme Court and Board of Bar Examiners regarding bar admission matters. Mr. Nass is past chair of the Oregon State Bar Appellate Practice Section and the American Bar Association Council of Appellate Staff Attorneys. He authored the “Courts of Oregon” chapter of the Oregon State Bar’s Civil Litigation Manual and the “Appellate Legislation” chapter of the bar’s 1997 Legislation Notebook. Mr. Nass is the 2000 recipient of the Oregon State Bar President’s Membership Services Award. (05/12)
