Hon. Gary R. Cassavechia is a judge in the Probate Division of NH’s Circuit Court. He was appointed judge of the Strafford County Probate Court in 1981 and in 2000 became a full-time judge, also presiding at the Hillsborough County Probate Court. Judge Cassavechia regularly conducts the probate court training for guardians ad Litem seeking certification from the Guardian ad Litem Board. He has represented the probate court on the Supreme Court Fiduciary Accounting Standards Committee and the Judicial Needs Assessment Committee. Judge Cassavechia currently serves on the following Probate Court Committees: Policy Committee, Procedures Committee, Forms Committee, Pro Se Committee and Education Committee. In addition, he has been actively engaged as a member of the Commissioner of Health and Human Services’ Elder Abuse Advisory Council. Judge Cassavechia was a collaborating judge in a joint publication of the American Bar Association, the Commission on Law and Aging, and the American Psychological Association, Determining Capacity in Older Adults in Guardianship Proceedings: A Bench Book for Judges. He graduated from Duquesne University and the Duquesne School of Law. Over his tenure on the bench, Judge Cassavechia has lectured and been a panelist at numerous continuing legal education programs and conferences. He has been a regular guest speaker at the University of New Hampshire Symposium on Children and the Law and has made numerous presentations to developmental service agencies involved in matters within the jurisdiction of the Probate Court. Judge Cassavechia is a member of the National College of Probate Judges, the New Hampshire Bar Association, the Strafford County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. 4/12 TL
