Rob Charles

Mr. Charles is a partner in the firm's Finance and Bankruptcy Group, resident in the Tucson office and practicing throughout Arizona and Nevada. He represents clients in business bankruptcy cases, commercial lawsuits and business transactions. He primarily represents both secured and unsecured creditors, as well as debtors, in all aspects of Chapter 11 business bankruptcy cases before the bankruptcy courts and in appeals. He works extensively with lenders and borrowers out of bankruptcy in all aspects of debtor/creditor relationships, including workouts and litigation. Clients range from agricultural lenders to national banks to sellers with carryback interests. He advises clients in matters including the Uniform Commercial Code, with expertise in negotiable instruments, banking law and secured transactions. He actively represents plaintiffs and defendants in civil and commercial litigation in the state and federal courts. Prior to joining the firm in 1984, Mr. Charles was Law Clerk to The Honorable Earl H. Carroll of the U.S. District Court in Phoenix, Arizona from 1982 to 1984. Professional ActivitiesMr. Charles is a contributor to the Norton Bankruptcy Law Adviser and has written the annual "Section 362 - Automatic Stay" article for the Norton Annual Survey of Bankruptcy Law since 1990. Recent presentations include the topics of Ethics; and Litigation in Chapter 11 at the Norton Bankruptcy Institute in Las Vegas; Hot Topics and Current Developments; and Sovereign Immunity at the Norton Bankruptcy Law Institute in Wyoming; and Hot Topics at the State Bar of Arizona Annual Meeting program of the Bankruptcy Section. Mr. Charles is a member of the State Bar of Arizona (including its Bankruptcy and Rules of Professional Conduct Committee), Pima County and American Bar Associations (including the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the ABA), and the Federal Bar Association. He was the chair of the State Bar of Arizona Bankruptcy Section for 1997-1998. Mr. Charles is a member of the Bankruptcy Advisory Commission to the State Bar of Arizona Board of Legal Specialization, and a member of the Local Rules Committee of the State Bar of Arizona Bankruptcy Section. He is also a member of the State Bar of Nevada, Clark County Bar Association and American Bankruptcy Institute. Mr. Charles is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts in Arizona, Nevada, and before the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.
