Benchmarking: Metrics and Methodologies
We will examine the two applications of benchmarking in the world of corporate law departments:
1. Benchmarking to measure and compare the current performance of law departments against historical performance or peer department performance
2. Benchmarking to measure and compare the performance of outside counsel.
Identify and describe metrics used to benchmark corporate law department performance and those to benchmark outside counsel, including:

Resource consumption metrics, and metrics designed to assess a law department’s capacity for efficient and effective client service.

Metrics specific to compensation,litigation, non-litigation, intellectual property, corporate governance and compliance.

Metrics to evaluate billing rates and general relationship
